Irish wagyu Family Farm

About Us

Finnow Farm is a  family run Irish Wagyu farm, located just outside Millstreet, Co. Cork. At the foot of Ballvouskill Mountain it is surrounded by lakes, waterfalls and forestry. Running alongside the farm is the River Finnow, a tributary of the Blackwater. This is where it gets it’s name Finnow Farm.

Conor is the third generation to farm here. Dairy farmers for over 80 years, Conor turned to beef farming in 2010 and began breeding Wagyu – a breed of cattle originating from Japan. In 2018, a house fire and health scare forced Conor to look at his lifestyle and his work-life balance. That year we took the plunge and sold our dairy herd. Finnow Farm was born and we started selling beef directly from Farm to Fork.

About Our Wagyu

Wagyu is a breed of cattle from Japan. “Wa” means Japanese and “Gyu” means cow, literally meaning Japanese cow.

We look after our Japanese cattle the Irish way.

Our Wagyu cattle roam lush fields and mountains, grazing on green grass and native Irish mountain herbs.  On Finnow Farm, our cattle are fed on a predominantly grass-fed diet, supplemented with our own home grown organic barley.

We still maintain some of the Japanese traditions, such as massaging. We have a massage brush which the cattle absolutely love to use. It relaxes them and keeps their coats clean and shiny.

Happy cattle mean a happy farmer and happy customers too!

Organic Irish Wagyu

Organic Irish Wagyu

We are an Organic Irish Wagyu farm. We are “in conversion” and will gain full Organic Certification in April 2024.
As members of the Irish Organic Association, we value animal welfare and natural, chemical free farming methods. This gives our beef a fuller, meatier, natural flavour, as well as high levels of vitamins and essential fatty acids.
Organic farming is more sustainable and much kinder to the environment than conventional modern farming methods. We maintain the level of stock that our land can cater for, eliminating the need for chemical fertilizers. We sell one complete animal before slaughtering another, reducing food waste and ensure the freshest Irish Wagyu produce for our customers.

Why Wagyu?

Wagyu beef is renowned for an intense marbled appearance which results in a tender, melt in the mouth meat with a distinctive and delicious flavour.

Wagyu meat is low in cholesterol, high in iron and protein, and packed full of essential amino and fatty acids including Omega-3 and Omega-6.

When the animal reaches 28 months the marbling gene kicks in and the fat stores are evenly distributed through the animal.

We have dedicated almost 20 years to perfecting our beef’s appearance, ensuring quality breeding, quality genetics and a quality Irish product.

We would argue that our Irish Wagyu is even tastier than Japanese Wagyu because of its grass-fed diet and the beautiful native Irish herbs our Irish Wagyu cattle feed on. Our animals are predominantly raised outdoors, only coming in for the winter months. Free roaming cattle are happier in their natural outdoor environment and will produce top quality meat as a result. That is why Irish beef is the best in the world!
